It feels like lately this website has been mostly used as a blog spot with only a miniscule amount of comic updates, and I apologise for that, I know you're all really here for the totally funny pictures I post. But the wait has not been in vain, some of you may have already heard but those who haven't, I and my good friend Lauren Hills, will be selling our brand new comic, Good Hordekeeping, this weekend at Melbourne Supanova! It's a comic about Zombies, and badass 50's housewives so I think there's something there for all the family really. you can find out more about it and us over at our new tumblr site where we have been shamelessly promoting ourselves (And will continue to do so) at http://goodhordekeeping.tumblr.com/ if you like my work you should definitely have a look, we will probably even be posting some original comic stories there that aren't even in the first book yet and, "first book?" I hear you say, if all goes super well and you give us enough love and positivce feedback for the first book, we may even go so far as to make a second issue so get on over there and check it out!
Obviously this means that I will be at Melbourne Supanova as I'm sure I've mentioned before but I won't just be selling our comic, (In fact Lauren will be doing all that at the table next to us!) Yes, me and my booth buddy Dean will be selling our art as per usual but this time with a DOUBLE BOOTH SPACE WOOOH! so we'll have all the space to display all our awesome art that you guys love so much and want to buy all of am I right?
Me and Dean will also be heading up to the Gold Coast next weekend for a SECOND Supanova convention, if you're lucky I'll bring along a few Good Hordekeeping copies, otherwise I will most likely have a few copies of a new Creatures zine that I put together the other night (just, y'know, randomly) AND Seeing as Gold Coast Nova is going to be my VERY LAST CONVENTION IN AUSTRALIA!!!! I will be doing all sorts of sweets deals to make sure I sell out of all my stock so Gold Coast you guys are lucky ducks!
For anyone who's gonna miss out on all these fun times, boo you! No I mean, don't worry! Haha, after the conventions are over I'm gona be opening up my shop again, properly this time, and any leftover stock I have left will be up for sale with special deals and bundles and everything! I'll be sending stuff all over the place so watch out! :)
That's just about everything for now, a small note on Ai-con, it was great fun and everyone was super lovely, the beautiful lady from RedGriffin Games even went so far as to buy a TON of my Adventure time Keychains for them to sell at their shop back in Perth and yes, I have forgotten her name. I'm sorry, I'm a shitty person with a wickedly awful memory and you should keep that in mind when you come say hi to me at conventions, if I look like I've been caught in the headlights of an oncoming truck, I've probably forgotten your name or how I know you. Don't worry though, despite this I often have comebacks in which I remember you again so...yeah, sorry about that guys. I suck, but I love seeing you all anyway, even if it causes me momentary distress as I wrack my memory banks. :)
So yes, looking forward to seeing you all this weekend and next,
Hallo, everyone! Once again, conventions have suddenly creeped up on me! While I previously was only going to be doing Supanova Melbourne and Gold Coast, I got a lucky last minute slot at the AI-Con artists alley in Hobart, Tasmania so next week I'll be flying south to hopefully cooler climates... (Check out the convention schedule at the bottom)
I have some other news as well! I got accepted into the SAW single year program, this is a single year intensive course for sequential artists in Florida, AMERICAAA, so I'm super excited about it! Unfortunately it means I will be leaving Australia mid June and probably not returning for quite some time as I plan to go back to Ireland after the course in america finishes! I'm going to miss everyone who I've made friends with here, you've all been so nice to me! To everyone who's looked after me over the past year, from housemates, to random convention strangers, I would not have had nearly so much fun without you guys! I'm looking forward to seeing you all at least one last time before I head on to new adventures so you'd better drop by my booth and say hi, whether it's in Tasmania, Melbourne or even the Gold Coast! >v<
I'll also be trying to lighten my load a bit before leaving for America so I'll have plenty to sell at each convention with a lot more original works than usual so hope everyone is ready for that! :) (Sorry Gold Coast, you get last dibs, but I'll try and bring something nice for you guys as well!) If I have anything left over after Supanova Gold Coast, I'll set up shop online and sell it there so possibly even people overseas will have a chance to get something!
I'll also be throwing away clothes and other random items (Maybe a tumblr giveaway for my jar of stars?OvO) So, folks who know me, if anyone is in need of secondhand clothes etc, I may have something for you? Maybe.... I'll work it out. I have a large roll of caution tape if anyone needs it... basically I have a lot of random things that I can't take with me. >A<
Comic updates are a bit slow at the moment I know but I'm working on some things that I think you guys will love, you'll just have to wait and see what they are! Keep watching this space!
Finally I want to mention Horror-con, despite my extreme fear of zombies (you know who you are sir!) the convention was really fun and it was really nice to see everyone enjoying themselves so much, the organisers were also super nice and went around personally to make sure everyone was doing well (5 stars you guys!)! The atmosphere was great and the location was super appropriate to the horror theme! I hope the convention continues to grow and inspire the horror communities of Melbourne! (If you didn't go this year you should definitely mark it off on next years calendar!) :)
Anywho, I think that's all for today,
Looking forward very much to seeing everyone in Tasmania,
WOOoooOoOoooooOOoooh! Okay, so apparently I only ever make blogs when there's conventions happening, which is conveniant I suppose. But I feel like all my updates have a very similar structure to them. Maybe I should hire someone to write constant blog updates for me. They can tell you all about my exciting adventures in time and space... maybe not?
Last time I wrote to you guys I was a jobless, penniless sitar player artist. I have recently had the wonderful fortune however of winning (applying for) a job in entertainment! (Childrens entertainment.) That's right folks, I am now a part time facepainter, sometime fairy/clown/whatever for hire!:D Which is cool, And the company that I'm working for has been absolutely lovely to me so, life is sweet right now. And you'll probably see some facepaintery themed comics in the near future)
And I'm also not gonna lie, the recent aqcuisition of a kitten in the house has not been without it's benefits of kitty cuddles and daily doses of cute for all. Sooo, that's been wonderfully distracting.
In serious news, Horror con is coming up in less than a week on the 19th and 20th of January and I am still a complete wuss when it comes to horror so.... if you're going, look for me crouched in the corner with my eyes screwed shut rocking back and forth as I block all my senses from whatever horrors are sure to abound in such a place. If you're in melbourne and you're interested in going along to it I'd definitely recommend it to y'all. It's only $25 for the weekend if you have concession and if you don't have concession the price is still pretty damned reasonable. On top of that it's being held in the suitably creepy cellars of Melbourne's Donkey Wheel House! for more info on the convention and to book your tickets you can check out http://www.ozhorrorcon.com/ and feel free to come scare the bejeezus out of me on the day. :)
With regards to the kind of stuff I'll be selling, obviously my usual artistic goods just don't fit the theme at all so, along with a friend with whom I will be table sharing, much effort has been made to create a ridiculous amount of horror themed original artworks for your enjoyment. Since I don't usually bring my original works to conventions this'll be a good chance to get a hold of one for I dunno, your collection? or something? Anyway, that's the Horror con covered, please please come and help me sell all my work. I am in fact not going to be in Australia much longer so I'm going to be trying my best to sell as much of my art as possible now so that I don't have to ship it all over the world with me! (PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME DO THAT OH GOD /STRESS)
Finally, as some of you may have noticed, I've started updating again more regularly over the past week and hope to continue this for as long as physically possible! So sorry for the delay, things should go back to normal from now on and I hope you guys are all looking forward to any future comics that I may be posting. :)
SO that's all folks,
Much love from me,
Ceili xox
PS. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ON TUESDAY TO MY AMAZING FRIEND SEÁN! YOU ARE AWESOME, GO KICK ASS AND STUFF (But in a dignified and gentlemanly manner of course!XD)
So I promised I'd do a blog once I got back from Brisbane Supanova and actualy had some time to do so, (This promise was made suddenly and in very small areas of the internet so if you missed it don't worry!) Anyway, for those who didn't realise, I spent last weekend up in Brisbane at Supanova where I met an inordinate amount of lovely and super talented people. (I know I always say that but jeeze, sometimes they just really ARE super talented!) I was especially impressed by the darling AtomicBees who said it was only her FIRST CONVENTION despite having the most amazing art skills ever! (Check them out, http://atomicbees.tumblr.com/) I also got an absolutely gorgeous print AND book from the delightful Mel Stringer, who you can find at http://melstringerart.tumblr.com which I recommend, especially if you're into very cute pin up art! :)
Anyway, as you can imagine we had a great time, despite the nonstop rain on the Saturday, everyone was full of cheer and joy and other holiday feelings! Now that it's over however you may be wondering what's next? Well I'm actually going to be selling some art at the Melbourne Horror convention which is coming up in January, and I have realised since agreeing to do it that horror things scare the bejeezus out of me and that I am going to spend the entire weekend cowering in fear behind my table so, if you're going to be there please be nice to me! (Or you know, have your fun and do your best to freak me out...but please don't, I'll set my friend on you!)
Anyway, yes, despite being terrified of all things creepy, I will be doing a number of original art watercolour paintings on canvas for the occasion so, if you're interested in the convention, you can find all the details here: http://www.ozhorrorcon.com/
Now, onto other matters, you probably all have noticed that I haven't been uploading very many comics as of late and I intend to fix that as soon as possible. Unfortunately I am going to put Dancing Solo on hold for the moment as I am getting some help with fixing up the story a bit and so until that's done I will be working on other things! I'm currently doing an online design course so that's been taking up a bit of time as well, even though it's been super interesting! So, even though I may not have been putting anything online for you guys to see lately , I have been working on a variety of super secret projects which I will hopefully be presenting to you fairly soon, there is both a tentatively ongoing comic and a few short comics in the works so hang tight and we'll see how fast I can get them up for y'all! :)
That's all for now,
Hope you're all having lovely days and mysterious nights,
So after a fairly rocky start (Which you may have read about previously) Armageddon managed to to improve drastically on the final day when we got to spread out a bit with an extra table (Much thanks to the dudes at the end of our row who graciously allowed me to claim said table!) The extra number of lovely people was also a plus!
One thing that was clear by the end was that I really really like having a whole table to myself! (Sorry Sasu, we can no longer be table buddies, there just isn't enough room for the two of us!) That said, I'll still be sharing with Sasu (http://tehsasu.deviantart.com/) at the upcoming Supanova Brisbane (AKA Brisnova) over the weekend of the 9th to the 11th of November. We'll be heading up on the Thursday and will be on display from Friday onwards so if you're gonna be there then drop by and say hello to us, we'll be at booth U2 (no jokes) In a nice coincidence we will also be right next to the lovely artist Mori (http://www.mori-art.com/), who I shared my first australian convention table with back in April, Supanova Melbourne (Melnova?) This'll also probably be my last convention of this year so that wraps it up nicely in a full circle!
For anyone who was at Armageddon you probably noticed that I had a number of new Adventure Time prints, I'm currently working on the gender bent versions now so I'll have a full collection of adventure time prints (And keychains!) in time for Brisnova! And, if you're not gonna make it to Brisnova, I've recently relocated my shop to Redbubble where you can now buy a number of my prints in a variety of formats, including T-Shirts! (Yes, Adventure Time T-Shirts are up now: http://www.redbubble.com/people/sendmeletters/shop) I'll be adding more prints over the next week or so, so if there's something you wanted but you can't find it yet, feel free to drop me a reminder and I'll see about adding it as soon as I can!
In other news, the exhibition went great, thanks to anyone who dropped by to have a look, I hope you enjoyed it if you did go for a visit! Special thank you to my good friend Jay and my aunt and cousin (And his friend) who all came along to the opening night, We had a delicious dinner of dumplings followed by the most amazing Wasabi White Chocolate icecream which really just made for the best day all in all!
Speaking of my cousin, you should all check out this link: http://www.pozible.com/index.php/archive/index/10439/description/0/0
I'm doing various illustrations and an ongoing comic for them which you'll be able to read if you subscribe to the paper (Also if they get enough funding I might finally get paid for all the work I do for them!) So please check it out and if nothing else at least share the link with your friends and family!
As for what I'm planning next, there's a number of projects in the works, (Hopefully more paid than not) I'm gonna be printing my Life of a Tree comic shortly in a nice little book format which I will hopefully have in time for Brisnova, there are also other comic decisions currently happening so more news on that all soon hopefully! I've also been doing some freelance work and, though I haven't mentioned it anywhere before, someone at Armageddon asked me if I do commissions and the answer is yes, I'm willing to accept commissions, just send me a note or an ask or any kind of contact with what you would like and I'll negotiate prices and everything with you. (Though I also reserve the right to turn down comissions as I won't always have the time to take them on so please don't be too disappointed if I say no!)
So things are nicely busy here, I'm heading out to a Burlesque drawing night tonight with some friends so that should be fun, I'll let you know, also spending a ridiculous amount of time making paper stars after some EVIL PERSON gave me a box full of star making paper (Thanks Aly) so now I have a giant jar almost full of stars and the box isn't even close to empty... oh well, I'm sure they'll come in handy eventually!
